The Commemorative Coins

Did you know that: The UAE Central Bank issues a number of commemorative currencies to mark important occasions or achievements and the commemorative coins are three types: Gold, Silver and 1 dirham.

Two gold coins were issued in 1992 to commemorate the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, one with a value of 500 dirhams and the other with a value of 1000 dirhams. The Central Bank also issued several commemorative coins featuring the image of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may his soul rest in peace, on occasions such as: the 5th Anniversary of the UAE, the 30th Anniversary of Zayed, the selection of Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak as the Humanitarian Personality of the Year in 1998, and many other occasions.
